Republicans in rural communities have been led to believe our Country is broke and that it wastes money. It’s not true. Our economy generates plenty of money for projects like universal healthcare, infrastructure repair, food stamps for the needy and much, much more. The real problem is that the Republican party uses social issues like immigration, guns and abortion to distract its non-wealthy constituents while fleecing them by redirecting the wealth in this country to the top 1 to 10 percent. In return, Republicans promise "trickle down benefits," which translate into low wage jobs with no employee benefits — jobs like fast food worker, nursing home aid, commissioned sales person, Uber driver, and the like.
(Remember the very first thing Republicans did when they came to power was grant massive tax breaks to Corporations, which really meant large bonuses for corporate executives and dividends for shareholders).
In the 1980s, the nature of employment changed in this country, to remove almost all of the guarantees our parents enjoyed — and they’re not coming back! Things like lifetime employment, pensions, healthcare benefits, affordable college tuition, real tuition assistance, and a union backed livable wage are now practically gone for good. To "make America great" again, we need to find new ways to replace these guarantees –guarantees that fit the way real Americans live and work today, without counting on employers to give them a fair shake.
So go right ahead, keep on believing those ultra-rich, ultra-right-wing radio/tv commentators. Go right on believing that shithole Donald Trump every time he sells you down the river. Go right on believing your wealthy business owner Republican committee man when he tells you it costs too much, as the Republicans in Washington run up the biggest deficits in recent history by giving our tax dollars away to wealthy corporate executives and shareholders. At least you’ll get to keep your automatic weapons.
